mariobedayo
Hi! Moses How are you? can i ask you regarding 3' lift for my jeep 1994 Grand cherokee ZJ only to use the budget spacer to accomodate 31 x10.5 tires with stock spring and shocks, what can you suggest . Thank you . Regards, Mario Bedayo Philippines
Administrators Moses Ludel Posted February 12, 2015 Administrators Share Posted February 12, 2015 Mario, the 3" lift would likely require a CV rear driveline to prevent vibration. There is no slip yoke eliminator (SYE) kit for the NP249 transfer case, only for the NP231. So you cannot install a rear CV driveline. The spring spacers for 31" tires would be the least challenging. After installing the spacers, you need to make sure the front axle caster angle is within specification and that the driveline U-joint angles are also in specification. Administrators Moses Ludel Posted February 13, 2015 Administrators Share Posted February 13, 2015 Mario...You will likely use longer gas charged shocks, they are available with most of the quality lift kits. If you were doing a 3.5" lift or a long-arm kit, I would recommend Full-Traction Suspension. I'm pleased with the FTS 6-inch long arm kit under my XJ Cherokee. The 2" spacer or milder coil spring lift kits are each similar, though some have better construction. The biggest issue is driveline shake if the rear driveline joint angles are incorrect. Read the kit details before buying. The manufacturer should talk about driveline angles and solutions. Driveline angles can be troublesome on the XJ and ZJ. Also note whether longer shocks are necessary. Be aware that many of the kits look very inexpensive—unless you need to add gas shocks separately. Make sure you know whether an additional shock absorber package is required. Our friends at www.AutoAnything.com are price competitive with each of the popular mild lift kits. Administrators Moses Ludel Posted March 16, 2015 Administrators Share Posted March 16, 2015 Hi, Mario...If the rub is from the wheel/tire being too far outboard, you could increase the rim backspacing. Stock rims may be closer to 5.5" backspacing. Measure the backspacing on a stock rim. On my Jeep XJ Cherokee, I run 33" tires (285/75R16) on 8" wide rims with 4.5" backspacing. The American Racing wheel specifications are at: http://www.americanracing.com/wheels/AR172/AR1727/techsheet?year=1999&make=Jeep&model=Cherokee To do this with stock fenders and flares on the XJ Cherokee, I need a 6-inch long arm suspension lift. To run 31"x10.5" tires on your ZJ Grand Cherokee, you do need a lift. Did you install the lift we discussed? If so, how much lift? Many run 3.75" backspacing, but this requires even more fender and flare room. Moses
