  1. also worked out its original paint is glenwood green poly (DQE-42073-DAL*) so ill return it to to original as far as paint colour goes the wife thinks its the best colour for it so ill do as im told
  2. Hi Moses ive worked out what the diffs are i stuck my head under a nissan patrol today & there they were so im happy with that as i have another 2 complete sets with front discs also i have to do some measuring to see if what i have in mind will work as 1 of the nissans i have is a runner rusty but the drive train is all ok & i think the sd33t & 5 spd & transfer would be a good reliable combo as this thing has already had a few mods (most of which ill be undoing) im happy to do a bit of practical modification to make the rebuild & upkeep cheaper & easier i.e.the more parts i can source locally the better cheers ian
  3. Hi Moses picked this little cj5 up this weekend as well its been neglected so the floors are pretty much gone but its sound enough to give it another lease on life so a bit of rust work & a few parts (new fenders) some wiring etc havent checked the engine or driveline yet but will sort the body first
  4. Hi Moses ive done it again gone & made more work for myself but this pick up will be great when its restored im not sure what the diffs are though not sure i theyre a mod or whether these were assembled here with different running gear i do know they did that with the cj6 (combat 6) it had a ford 6 cyl & borg warner running gear i will get better pics once i start stripping it down & clean things up its got some rust the roof being the worst the rest isnt too bad that tub on the back is junk ill build something that will look the part cheers ian
  5. HI Moses ive just fitted a spartan lunch box locker to my spare rear diff as the 1 in the car began to get a little noisey & the air locker stopped working i think the noise may be due to slight damage to the end of the pinion gear when the center shaft came out of the locker & chipped some teeth last time so rather than much about any more with it im going to put my spare diff in had it apart today & fitted the spartan it all appears to be in good condition no excessive wear or play even the bearing are all good so ill just fit it as is all seal are fine to "so if it aint broke dont fix it" sorry didnt think to take picks while i was working on it cheers ian ps ill be going on another offroad adventure in a month ill load some pics of that when i get back its the holland track (aka john holland way) that ill be doing it was originally a supply route to the goldfeilds (kalgoorlie) from the coast most of it has become roads nowbut 1 section still remains a track (4x4 only)
  6. Hi Moses is right i could be interested only just spotted this post but if you still have them can you please let me know what condition theyre in & what you want for them cheers ian
  7. been driving it for a couple of days now ive towed a trailer & had it in 4wd all working well much quieter & smoother box than the t5 was thats for sure the clutch feels good so i think its a success cheers ian
  8. Hi Moses I finally got time to get the ute going thanks to the weather it rained all night & all day so i had a good excuse to stay in the shed everything has fitted well with no problems i havent driven it far yet just in & out of the shed as i still have to modify the trans tunnel cover plate for the gear stick before i put the floor mat back in & then its all good to go cheers ian
  9. Hi Moses its not actually copper i had to look twice when i bought it must be a corrosion resistant coating but it is steel i to like silver solder but i used what i had on hand i cant imagine any problem with it cheers ian
  10. Hi Moses yes its a t5 to ax15 conversion & yes its an np208 i was able to get the gearbox from a wreckers yard & the slave cylinder from ebay as you can see in these pics ive just converted the slave cylinder from the plastic tube to steel line the brazing looks a bit rough but it will do the job just fine im sure now i just have to get some fitting next time i go to albany hopefully later this week or early next that way i can leave my existing clutch line unmodified the fsj's are a bit thin on the ground over here i think mainly due to poor exchange rates at the time so they were priced out of peoples price range also fuel consumption was an issue so there was a lot more land rovers, landcruisers & nissan patrols the landcruiser ended up coming out on top as the nations prefered 4x4 as for our films your right we do have some great stuff have a look at the trailer on this link its 1 im waiting for http://www.roughstuffmovie.com/ cheers ian
  11. Hi Moses ive been a bit slow on this job but ive had to wait on parts & had a lot of work commitments but ive got most of the parts required now just need to adapt the hydraulic line for the clutch but that should be easy enough ive had the shaft lengths altered by 60mm as the box is 60mm longer got the pilot bush from novak & dummies the transfer up to the ax15 it is on a slightly different angle probably only about 5 degrees or so anti clockwise if anything it looks like it will just improve clearances & the increased front shaft angle will be minimal especially now the front shaft is 60mm longer hopefully ill get a chance to put a few hours into it soon im missing the old girl cheers ian
  12. Hi 4x4 Freakie thanks for the compliment the light bar i have is a 42" illuminator they are available through an aussie supplier called 4wdsupercentre.com.au they have heaps of gear at great prices but im not sure if they ship international cheers ian
  13. my transfer case is the np 208 so i think it should bolt straight up but as you say ive got to find a gearbox first availability is not great & what there is tends to be over priced cheers ian
  14. well its 1 thing after another lately the t5 jut spat 3rd gear today so ill be doing some research on a better alternative i still want an overdrive box so probably wont go back to the original t176 4spd i think an ax15 might be ok but ill keep looking to see whats available & strong enough cheers ian
  15. Hi Moses the motorcraft carby is working well & fuel economy is much better now the 4.2 is back in yes its supposed to be spring here but someone forgot to tell winter its over yes i have a trip planned but ill be flying im going to queensland for 10 days to visit my brother he's got quite a few ineresting things planned including a few days 4wheel driving on fraser island & a trip up to cairns should be great fun would have loved to do it in my own vehicle but its on the opposite side of the country i think he's got some fishing planned as well his brother inlaw has a 53' riviera i think were going to head out on that for day trip cant wait i'm flying out on friday the 14th cheers ian
  16. Hi moses ive got it sorted out there was another problem when i opened it up the pin through the carrier was coming out & started hitting the back of the pinion so i welded a washer over each end so it cant come out again this saved me from having to open the locker which was proving to be impossible with the tools i have also i replace all bearings which meant the original shims were incorrect fortunately the kit i bought has shims so i was able to set it up it is now quieter than it was at speed but still make a little noise at low speed the kit i used was the motive gear kit from summit racing it came with crown wheel bolts too but theyre not needed cheers ian
  17. Hi Moses its an amc 20 in the rear i havent checked wheather these are a crush sleeve or can be retourqued to take up the bearing play but im sure ill find out cheers ian
  18. Hi Moses ive been adding a few things to Harry it now has a roof rack ,2 awnings ,a 42" light bar ,9" led spotties ,a winch ,10 disc stacker & an arial & craddle for the mobile phone for better reception up next will be the dual battery system & fit out the back its done the pinion seal in the rear diff theres a little bit of play in the bearing so i think that best be my next priority cheers ian
  20. Hi Moses due to damage done before i bought the cj10 by a dodgey starter motor the ring gear finally gave up so when i pulled the engine i decided to put the 4.2 back in mainly due to the terrible fuel consumption of the 4.6 & i got sick of listening to the electric fuel pump now i have the fsj as a toy this is primarily a work ute so reliabity & driveability are more important than the extra power which isnt that noticable anyway & the 4.2 has a smoother idle as think the 4.6 has the 4.0 cam also replaced the clutch master cylinder & repairing the leaky heater core cheers ian
  21. took harry out for a fishing & camping weekend with the local angling club i belong to we actually caught fish this time it was a good weekend all the gear in the back & off we went it sounds awesome thundering through the tracks big lazy thumping v8 i believe you are right about the ride being world class i would even go as far as to say world leading when they first went into production as the range rover didnt get produced until these beasts had been in production for 5 years or so & nothing else would come close till the nineties cheers ian
  22. Hi Moses i went & picked up the parts car that came with 'Harry '( thats what the fsj is affectionately known as) its a shame its body is even worse because its a limited & has all the fruit & i love the colours looks good in the pics but the rear end is rotten i will be putting the leather seats in thow & should be able to get enough patch panels from the roof & gutter sections to restore harry ive become quite attached to this car already i dont often get this kind of attachment i mean ive got a 70 dodge challenger ive restored with 600hp+ & i have little interest in it but ill drive this old jeep every day every where i go just something about it how weird is that i buy it for a donor car & fall in love with it looks like the cj10 will be keeping its 6 cylinder petrol for a while 0
  23. Hi Moses the conversion was done by a company on our west coast called brunswick diesels back in 05 its has spent a lot of time sitting in a shed as its only got 40,000km on it since the conversion when it was fully reconditioned they made a custom tourque converter for the 727 & it all seems to work very well as they are a very reputable company who these days are mostly fitting duramax's into toyota landcruisers & nissan patrols i think the 4.6 should be ok for the fsj as a lot of them over here were 4.2 manuals from factory the auto may rob some power but i would imagine it will still be quite usable for now im just enjoying driving it around as it is cheers ian
  24. oh & by the way the steering box rebuild i did is still going well no sings on leaks or noise so im happy with that for now but now i have 2 more ill rebuild the best 1 for the cj10 cheers ian
