  1. Recently my rear differential went out, along with that my rear driver side axle rod started working it's way out. With closer inspection the bearings seem to have been destroyed and not sure the level of damage in my differential. This is an original AMC 20 rear axle. I don't off road it so I don't need to over do it on the strength of the assembly. I just want it safe. Question is would it just be better to have the differential rebuilt and axle rod replaced? Are their aftermarket rear end assemblies that are bolt-on or do they require some level of fabrication? It's hard to find mechanic in my area that can do this work or want to do this work. I also having a hard time finding a used one to just swap it. Anyone have any ideas that won't break the bank? I'll probably sell it once it's safe to drive. Thanks
