This is not a Delco-Remy GM HEI distributor for a Chevrolet 250/292 inline six, right? Did you buy a Jeep 4.0L HEI type replacement distributor like the one sold at 4WD Hardware? Did the new distributor come with any wiring instructions? Typically, a GM distributor has one ignition lead and a tach lead. The ignition lead, in your case, could splice to the stock Jeep coil hot lead wire. You will not be using the stock Jeep coil, you simply want to try the KEY-ON/KEY OFF wire that provides current to the stock Jeep coil. This primary hot coil wire (look for a light gauge wire to the stock coil and test to make sure this wire reads full 12V power with the key on) is easy to reach. Note: The HEI type distributor has the coil in the distributor cap. You just need 12V power, with the ignition key-on, to the new distributor. GM HEI units or this aftermarket Jeep HEI distributor use straight 12V current from a KEY-ON/KEY-OFF circuit. Test the stock Jeep coil's primary wire to confirm this is 12V current with the KEY-ON.
