CarbonJeep...You have the coil-on-plug ignition on your '06 4.0L engine.  The 258 distributor ignition works with a single conventional coil and carburetor.  While your engine block and oil pump might accept an earlier distributor, your CPS, CMP, oil pump drive and EFI are part of a fuel-and-spark management system that works with the Jeep's PCM (powertrain control module).  The PCM controls spark timing.  You would not be able to use a 258 distributor with the EFI.  From a practical standpoint, you need the EFI, PCM, oil pump drive, MAP, CMP, TPS and crankshaft position sensor to work as a system.

For reliability, it would be smarter to carry spare parts known to fail:  the camshaft sensor with oil pump drive assembly would be one.  Other parts in the fuel-and-spark management system are generally reliable and can be checked with a scan tool.  The fuel pump in the tank should be in top shape with no codes.  (I periodically check the fuel pump's condition in real time with an oscilloscope.)  A spare fuel pump and pressure regulator/filter might be practical to carry on board.  Over time, the wear parts include the TPS, IAC and MAP.
