CarbonJeep
Hello, I would like to know if there are any magnetos that fit a 4.0 six made in 2006. If not, could I put a distributor from an old 258ci on it? Trying to prepare for an emp. You never know. thanks, Andy
Administrators Moses Ludel Posted September 19 Administrators Share Posted September 19 CarbonJeep...You have the coil-on-plug ignition on your '06 4.0L engine. The 258 distributor ignition works with a single conventional coil and carburetor. While your engine block and oil pump might accept an earlier distributor, your CPS, CMP, oil pump drive and EFI are part of a fuel-and-spark management system that works with the Jeep's PCM (powertrain control module). The PCM controls spark timing. You would not be able to use a 258 distributor with the EFI. From a practical standpoint, you need the EFI, PCM, oil pump drive, MAP, CMP, TPS and crankshaft position sensor to work as a system. For reliability, it would be smarter to carry spare parts known to fail: the camshaft sensor with oil pump drive assembly would be one. Other parts in the fuel-and-spark management system are generally reliable and can be checked with a scan tool. The fuel pump in the tank should be in top shape with no codes. (I periodically check the fuel pump's condition in real time with an oscilloscope.) A spare fuel pump and pressure regulator/filter might be practical to carry on board. Over time, the wear parts include the TPS, IAC and MAP. Moses
