  1. Hey guys, new to the forum but I follow the magazine. I apologize if this is the wrong thread to post but looks to me like there's knowledgeable members in this thread all talking about the 48re so seems fitting. Anyways, I have been having a very similar issue with the 48RE in my truck and it recently went kaput and the sad thing is I didn't even have any mods on the truck other than just an intake and exhaust and I don't plan on increasing the power anymore than it's at now. I found a remanned 48re here, https://reman-transmission.com/transmission-codes/?code=48RE, for only like 2.5k which is cheaper than anyone around here will even rebuild mine for but it seems too good to be true. Does anyone have experience with these guys transmissions or have an online transmission rebuilder that's trustworthy? Interested your opinions out there
  2. My tranny will not shift unless I column shift from 1 to 2. It will not go to 3rd. I will go into reverse. I have checked fuses. Cleaned up ground connects. I have a working speedometer which should rule the vss. The screws are tight at the column shifter and shift cable connection. The shift lever seats in each detent for each gear. Cable does not appear to need adjustment. Column shift indicator lines up with selected gears. I have purchased but not broken the packaging on a new neutral safety switch....hoping to be able to return it. I have verified the truck will not start in any gear but park. What have I missed? I replaced body mount bushings. Prior to that the tranny was great.
  3. I have a 1988 F150 4x4 manual transmission. I’m wondering how to go about adjusting the shift linkage. Any help would be greatly appreciated
  4. Torque specs on trans. Bands, have seen different specs in two different manuals from what I’ve read on forums, 72 inch lbs on front and rear and 42 inch lbs on rear. In the manuals for 32 rh, thanks
  5. I rebuilt an AX 15 in a 99 Wrangler. It went back together fine, it shifts tight, only 1 problem. Shifting from 2nd to 3rd is fine and from 3rd to 4th is good. I just can't get it to go from 4th to third. I am guessing it may be a ball or shift plug out of place in the rail or intermediate plate. Any thoughts? Thanks Tim
  6. T86 F-1 Ford/Mercury 3-speed transmission with overdrive. $250 or best offer. This transmission was intended for a '49 Ford restoration project that was never completed. Its time for it to go; make me an offer. Located in Warrrenton, VA.
  7. Hi, I hope this is the right forum for this. I am doing a resto mod project with my 1956 Willys Pickup. I am in the process of installing a 4.0 from a 2004 Wrangler into it with an AX15 5 speed and Dana 300 transfer case. I rebuilt the AX15 by following the FSM from Jeep Chrysler as well as a few youtube videos. All clearances are spot on. Now that the trans is together I went to bench test it and the shift lever will go through the gears although reverse is slightly harder. I can turn the input shaft by hand in 3rd and 4th gear only. 1st, 2nd, 5th and reverse will not allow me to spin the input shaft by hand. Has anyone come across this before. Just looking for some guidance before I tear this trans apart again. Also note that this was an early AX15 (internal slave) that I have converted to external slave. To do this I bought the newer bellhousing, bearing retainer plate, shift fork as well as changed to the newer style input shaft that uses the 3/4" pilot bearing. It has all new synchros, seals, bearings, synchro keys and synchro snap rings. Thanks for any help you can provide. -Chris
  8. Hi to all, Hoping to get a little guidance! I recently completed a rebuild of the AX15 with a master rebuild kit which was uneventful. When it was completed and bench tested, it shifted rather smoothly into all gears, except reverse. It took a few tries each time, but the reverse gear would engage and the output shaft would spin in the opposite direction with no issues once it's engaged. Having read a lot about difficult shifting just after a rebuild, we thought little of it and installed it in the car. Now, we are still having the same issue, but worse. The transmission won't at all shift into reverse, and feels as if something is blocking it. There's no grinding or partial engagement of the reverse idler gear whatsoever. Even with all but the most extreme force, it still feels like there's a hard stop just in front of the reverse range. We managed to force it into reverse (luck?) maybe twice since it's been installed in the car, and it moves the car beautifully backwards with no noise, clunking, grinding, or popping, but as soon as it's returned to neutral, the same issue occurs again. We took it out for a test drive and let things get nice and warm, and it shifts wonderfully into all 5 forward gears, but the reverse is still absent. Any ideas what could be going on? Do I have to drop the transmission? The shifter isn't binding on/hitting the body or console as we've removed all that and it had no difference. ? Here's a video of the issue. Thanks in advance for any advice. InShot_20180312_025446985.mp4
  9. After talking with my Transmission repair man, his opinion is that someone ran the 5 speed manual Transmission without oil and there is a very loud wine coming from the transmission in 1, 2, 3, and 5th gears. Because of the number of hours spend flying prop aircraft over the years, the wine is a frequency I cannot hear. To me it is just noise. Now all gears are working but in my opinion it is just a matter of time before things start going south. Now for my questions: 1. I have access to a spare 5 speed manual transmission from a 1.6L Geo Tracker that is a 2WD. Is it possible to put both of them together to create one good 4WD 5 speed manual?? 2. I have found a 99 to 05 Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.5L 4WD manual transmission at a reasonable price. Of course this mated to the V6 Suzuki engine not the 2.0 L straight 4. Would this transmission mate to my 2.0 L engine. One last question: What would be involved with swapping the 5 speed manual with an automatic? I seem to be able to find lots of Automatics out there for 4WD. I need to resolve what I want to do about the transmission before seriously tackle the 4WD & indicator lights not functioning. Joseph
  10. I have attached a few pictures of this transmission I have but I don't know where its from I need help identifying this transmission the only thing I can identify here is the transfer case because it has the sticker in the back its an NP "new process" 249 J This is a manual 4wd transmission I believe its an ax15 transmission but please give me your input as i'm not sure any help is appreciated one more thing from the shape of the bell housing I don't think this came of a Jeep possibly AMC or other but thanks again
  11. Can anyone tell me what would cause an e4od in a 94 f150 4x4 to randomly go into a false nuetral no matter what gear it's in
