Hello, I have a 1987 YJ 2.5L. It has a bad miss at idle once warmed up. It has a new fuel pump, MAP, Coolant sensor and the mechanic put a used fuel pressure regulator in it. Today, I hooked up my old Snap-on scanner. It shows that it is staying in open loop, it has 0 hg. of manifold vacuum, and coolant is not going over 155 degrees. I changed the coolant sensor and it reads exactly the same. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Tony
Hi all! I really need some help here. My husband and I are at our wits end. We have a new to us 2000 jeep wrangler, 2.5 manual. Since August when we purchased it we have only been able to drive it maybe 20-25 times. Everytime we have fixed/replaced something on it another problem comes up. So with that being said here's the newest of problems: We have an engine code p0505. Idle air control valve. We have cleaned the throttle body multiple times. Along with the iac sensor. We have replaced the iac sensor 3x with mopar sensors. At idle the engine reads 1000-1200 rpms. While driving the jeep, the rpm is where it's supposed to be. As soon as the clutch is engaged or in neutral the rpm goes all over the place between 700-2000 rpm until we are at a complete stop. Once stopped the rpms sit at 1000-1200 rpms again. Any ideas or suggestions? We're really at a loss here. What we've done:. All hoses have been checked, replaced if needed. O2 sensors replaced with NTK sensors. TPS replaced, crankshaft sensor replaced with mopar. IAC replaced 3x with mopar. Still getting the p0505 code and crazy/high/erratic rpm. Help please!
Bought my son a nice 86 cherokee. It has an idle problem that is driving me crazy though. I've checked for vacuum leaks and found none. I've checked all the sensors according to what I've found on this site and they check good, except the tps, I havent checked it... I ran out of time the last time I got to work on it due to rain... So it is suspect. The problem is, when you start it, hot or cold, it will surge and sometimes die for about 45 secs to a min. I can see the IAC motor slowing decreasing the idle but then right before it dies, it will snap the throttle open. Somtime's it does die before it can open fast enough, but the IAC motor seems to be working. After that first min of surging, it runs great, won't die or surge again, until you shut it off for a few mins and restart. It will start right up everytime but go through its surge for a min and then run fine. You can keep it running by feathering it. Engine hot or cold it will do this. Could this be the tps? Its the 2.5l with the manual trans.
