  1. Hi fellow 4x4 buddies. So the other day i am driving down the freeway in my OJ and suddenly my revs go up. i lay off the gas and apply small amount of pedal and nothing. I am in gear and I have no engine/trans lights on. I turn the O/D off and still nothing. I coast off an exit and then I have the transmission back again. I have good red fluid and no foul smelling oder either. There are over 210k original miles on this rig that is my daily driver. It has been dependable all for the front end needing a complete overhaul. I just dont know where to start. I am a DY kinda of guy. Any pointer or things to look for or start with would be very helpful. Transmissions are not my forte really so I dont want to make any more problems than the one i have.
  2. I have a 93 Bronco with a e40d trans. I just replaced the trans with one from a 93 F150 that had recently been totaled. The trans looked like it been rebuilt recently. The problem is when it is in drive it starts off in third gear. If you put it in 1st or 2nd they work fine, but not if its in drive. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  3. Ford has played a major role in the SUV market. In 1966, the original Bronco raised 4x4s to multipurpose, highway worthy levels, especially after the introduction of the 289 V-8 option! Sure, Jeep had its new V-6 in the CJs, and I-H dropped a 266 V-8 into the Scout, but each of these vehicles was old news in the handling and drivability department... I believe that Ford made modern technology accessible to off-road vehicles, upgrading powertrains to levels of performance that make SUVs popular to this day. If you'd like to share your views and get feedback on technology, repairs, troubleshooting and upgrades, I'd be pleased to participate at this forum! Have a vintage Bronco or full-size Bronco? An SUV with the blue oval badge? Join, post your comments, and let's get others involved! Moses
  4. I was a a high school junior when the Ford Bronco came into the market. Our local (Minden, Nevada) dealership, Neddenriep Ford, sent its very first Bronco floor model to El Dorado Canyon, where a Jeep hill climb was taking place. With great anticipation, the crowd watched the 170 cubic inch, inline Falcon/Mustang six-powered utility vehicle take on the new Jeep CJ 225 Dauntless (Buick) V-6 models. The Ford cloth-top looked quite sturdy with its 92-inch wheelbase. As the '66 Bronco leaped from the start line toward the steep hill, the load and sandy soil made the coil-sprung front axle hop violently! The Bronco lost traction near the base of the hill, backed up slowly and pointed toward the highway...Ford would remedy the wheel hop and coil spring oscillation issue, and by the Spring of '66, a potent small-block 289 V-8 option had the classic Broncos eating up the asphalt and backcountry! A beloved icon had been born, and the steed grew into a full-size model in 1978, based upon the F100/150 chassis with a shorter wheelbase. This set the stage for later full-size models like the Explorer and Expedition, and even the Excursion received benefit. Later model IFS 4WD on the lighter chassis and a beam axle on the Excursion 4WD kept Ford's noted reliability, ride and handling intact...At this forum, share your Ford Bronco and Ford SUV 4x4 experiences and projects, Ford technology and four-wheeling with the Bronco!—Moses Ludel
