  1. Janet, sorry to hear about that after everything else. Regarding what bigman100 says above, had a quick look at some UK suppliers: Nissens(very good make) do a radiator for the KJ for about £150. Different makes of dryer for the aircon about £30 and aircon pump about £250 for a Denso. Shows how much more the dealers charge and the parts are available, shown as stock, two day delivery. But it can be a hassle to get a garage to fit parts they don't source themselves. Hope something works out. Cheers.
  2. Janet, Great news, did you wonder if that letter would ever arrive?☺ Did worry a bit when I read it quick on phone and saw "just need to provide"... Had a quick look to top of the thread and the first post is February 2014, it's been a while! Thanks for your work and updates.
  3. I don't think anyone will be paying jeep for a towbar on principle. Especially as the Tow Trust one passes. I see on the Facebook recall page jeep have even managed to delay the sending out of the letters (another delay)
  4. Hi all, Seems Jeep customer service still doing the misinformation thing. On the N46 Facebook page there's a post saying that an owner has been told that Technical Department will have a towbar ready in 6 weeks. We've heard that before....
  5. I think we all agree that the Tow Trust bar is the way to go. But an owner of a Jeep receiving the above posted letter is obviously going to have some concerns and doubts. After all it has come from the Directors Office, they should know?? This is an unusual case of the tow bar having to supply the additional element of crash protection, thereby becoming an integral part of the vehicle,"Maybe" someone at Jeep thinks they are best placed to have the final say as they designed and manufactured the vehicle and will be responsible for the performance of the vehicle in a rear end collision. So although the Tow-Trust tow bar meets all the normal requirements (and dealers are passing it)it has not been tested in a rear impact so it is an unusual situation compared to other vehicles having a towbar. Maybe someone at Jeep thinks that and conceived that letter.
  6. MikeK Hi, Have you seen the PDF posted at no186 further up? Its the letter from the Directors Office at Fiat Group UK. Its signed at the bottom and also CC to Steve Zanlunghi, MD Group autos UK. Seems like they guys at Fiat/Jeep aren't talking to each other.
  7. Thanks for keeping us updated. I'm sure I read, probably further back in this thread that Jeep never got the KJ Cherokee approved for towing anyway. Is it "whole vehicle type approval"? Seems a bit off for them to be saying which towbars they approve of.
  8. Hi Moses, a little bit of info regarding the 2.8crd engine (not enough to start a topic?) and you may know already. I remember when I was looking into getting one there are two versions. They're both 2.8(not the earlier 2.5). One has 146 bhp 266 lb-ft torque the other 161 bhp 295 lb-ft. I don't know what was done to make the difference. Cheers.
  9. Paul, I'm getting similar mpg not the best these days but I use a van for work so Jeep doesn't do many miles. Agree I was pleasantly surprised with the instant power when required. Moses, our tax has many levels. For all vehicles registered Pre 2001 it's worked out on engine size, smaller is cheaper. After 2001 it's worked out on co2 emissions. After March 2006 big jump across the board. And also first year tax varies to so a big emission car can have a huge first tax then a bit less anually. Lots of cars now have zero anual tax if the emissions are low enough. It really effected the used car market if you want to sell a high emission car (or Jeep)
  10. Hi Moses, sorry late reply and I suppose this should be posted somewhere else now :-).Some interesting info you've got there thanks. Yes I have the 2.8crd in the Renegade version. ( now the name of the new "little" Jeep). Hi Paul, I got the 2005 model as from March 2006 the government increased road tax and it jumped about £200 a year. But as far as I know and just checked the 2.5 and 2.8 are in the same band which is K. Currently £285 for pre March'06 and £485 after. Cheers.
  11. Hi Moses, A little bit of info regarding the 2.8crd engine (not enough to start a topic?) and you may know already. I remember when I was looking into getting one there are two versions. 12. Hi, Paul Thanks for explaining, I think since this process stared I've got into the habit of analysing everything too much, what's this mean, what's that mean etc. At least now it's over. Thanks again. cheers.
  13. Hi, Just read on another forum, about the price difference of £127 and £135.The bar from Tow Trust doesn't have the electrics or tow ball they would be extra. The same towbar from Towbars Direct is a kit and has everything, the electrics, ball etc. So if you just swap a towbar, not much in it but more of a difference if you require the the lot.
  14. It is really good news but even cheaper here http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/151525929364?_mwBanner=1 Same towbar sourced from TowTrust but selling for less.
  15. PS Moses and others in the US thanks for the facility of this forum, can't imagine how this would have gone without the Internet. (well it would be endless phone calls, looking in yellow pages, letters using actual paper etc) Merry Christmas.
