Administrators Moses Ludel Posted January 23, 2016 Administrators Share Posted January 23, 2016 Hi, Mario...Best way to compensate for 33" tires on a 4.0L or 2.5L XJ Cherokee is by changing the axle gear ratios. I run 33" with the 4.0L inline six and changed to 4.10 gears front and rear. That just compensated for the original 3.55 factory gearing and stock tires. If I were to do this again, and especially with a 2.5L engine, I would use 4.56:1 gears for the 33" diameter tires. The added weight of aftermarket accessories calls for lower (numerically higher) axle gearing.Moses
Administrators Moses Ludel Posted January 25, 2016 Administrators Share Posted January 25, 2016 Mario...As a footnote to the gearing and 33" tires, for the 4-cylinder 2.5L engine and 33” diameter tires, 4.88 gearing would also be okay…If you add many accessories and much weight to the vehicle with this smaller engine, 4.88 gearing would be better than 4.56. Otherwise, if weight is close to stock, 4.56 gears would be okay.Moses
