Shanone
I have an 89 wrangler yj 4 cylinder manual I have replaced plugs wires rotor fuel tank pump sending unit tps o2 sensor map sensor fuel relay fuel pressure regulator idle air control it is fine when at idle but when it warms up and you drive it wants to quit out at 10,000 rpms please any and all suggestions welcome
Administrators Moses Ludel Posted September 14, 2015 Administrators Share Posted September 14, 2015 Shanone...Imagine you mean 1000 rpm? Idles okay but won't accept throttle? Have you cleaned and tested the crankshaft position sensor? It's a common weak spot on these systems and often accumulates engine oil from the rear main seal and pan gasket. There's an ohms resistance test for the CPS itself. Test and clean the CPS, see if this does it. We'll go from there. Moses
Shanone
Ok where is it supposed to be located and just found egr valve tube leak would that also be a cause thank u
Administrators Moses Ludel Posted September 14, 2015 Administrators Share Posted September 14, 2015 Yes, the EGR leak could be an issue, this would lean the mixture just as the throttle cracks open! Try a fix there first. The CPS is at the rear of the engine above the flywheel at approximately 11 o'clock when looking forward from the transmission toward the engine...CPS bolts to the bell housing. Unplug and handle with care.Moses
Shanone
Repair the EGR tube change the crank position sensor still loses power but the vehicle strength seem stronger
Administrators Moses Ludel Posted September 16, 2015 Administrators Share Posted September 16, 2015 Shanone...Loses power in what sense? Stalling, lack of throttle response? Have you run a compression check on this engine? Better yet, a cylinder leakdown test? What's the engine's history if known?Moses
Shanone
It seems to want to go it has no noise what so ever just after about 20 min it doesn't want to accelerate
Administrators Moses Ludel Posted September 20, 2015 Administrators Share Posted September 20, 2015 Shanone...May seem elementary, but have you changed the fuel filter? Otherwise, do you have a check engine light?Moses
Shanone
New fuel filter and no engine light however it did back fire out of throttle body ?
Administrators Moses Ludel Posted September 22, 2015 Administrators Share Posted September 22, 2015 Shanone...I would check the fuel pressure with the new fuel filter. It may be too high now with the fuel flow unrestricted. Sounds like too much fuel spilling into the manifold if this is not an ignition related problem (cross firing or distributor cap arcing). Try the fuel pressure and check for leakage or seeping from the fuel nozzle. Hook up a timing light to #1 cylinder and use the light to watch the fuel spray pattern with the engine idling and air hood removed. Make sure the cone is uniform without fuel drip. Warning: Do not remove the air hood from the TBI unit and run the engine if you think it will backfire! This could cause a fire or severe personal injury...Resolve the backfire issue before checking the spray pattern with your timing light.
