Battery hooked up backwards in my 1992 4.0 2wd Ranger

Recommended Posts

Hello,
My battery was accidentally hooked up backwards on my truck, now the starter stays engaged when I start the truck until I put it in Drive or reverse ( still runs in neatral), and the battery no longer charges.( the truck will run until the battery is dead though) Please help as I really need this little fishing truck to work.

1992 Ford Ranger extended cab
4.0l 6 cyl motor

Automatic

2wd

Thanks

Fly fishing is a very good reason to keep your Ranger running...Sounds like a damaged or shorted neutral/park (start) safety switch or a dragging, possibly shorted, ignition switch.

Not charging could be a blown fusible link in the alternator's charging path.  Reversing battery leads could short a fusible link...If that's not it, have the charge output from the alternator checked.  Check the neutral/start safety switch circuit and switch.

Keep us posted...Members will be glad to help!
